If you're hampered by budgetary constraints and still unsure where to book your summer vacation, there's still time. Lucky for you, August has been deemed the cheapest summer month to travel, and London the most affordable international destination out of the US by the data keepers at Expedia.
After combing through flight data booked in 2017, Expedia teased out trends for summer travel this year and found that airfare to London is about 25 percent cheaper for travel in August compared to the same period last year.
For US travelers looking to vacation closer to home, Fort Lauderdale is the cheapest option for travel in August, with ticket prices averaging $272.
For those with smaller travel budgets, you might want to consider holding off your summer plans until the last two weeks of August, when airfares are at their cheapest.
International travelers are also advised to start their trip on a Thursday or Friday for cheaper fares. For domestic travelers, the cheapest day to fly is Friday.
In general, while it's advised to book airfares about 30 days out for the best airfares, it's a different story for car rentals. Roadtrippers who booked more than 60 days out actually paid up between 20 and 40 percent more than average last summer.
Data shows that travelers should wait one to two weeks in advance to lock in better rates and availability.
